The digestive tract begins at the mouth and ends at the anus. The lower portions of the digestive tract include the small Intestine, appendix, large intestine (or colon), and rectum. The rectum connects to the anus. Various conditions may develop over your lifetime, some due to lifestyle/diet, infection, genetics or chronic disease. These conditions include:

  • Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s or Ulcerative Colitis)

You doctor might refer you to a surgeon once your condition becomes more advanced, you no longer receive relieve from conservative treatment, or for prevention and treatment of cancer. Dr. Bahna is a fellowship trained colorectal surgeon with expertise in traditional, minimally invasive, transanal, and robotic surgical techniques. She is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, as well as in Colon and Rectal Surgery by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Dr. Bahna performs many procedures including:

  • Colon resection
  • Rectocele repair
  • Colostomy placement and reversal
  • Hemorrhoidectomy
  • Anal fistula surgery
  • Removal of polyps and colon tumors
  • Sphincter saving surgery for rectal cancer
  • Advanced colonoscopy

The surgical plan is created on an individual basis. Dr. Bahna will work with you to determine if surgery is needed, and what surgical approach is best for you.
